In How to Meditate, Pema Chödrön “presents her first book exploring in depth what she considers the essentials of lifelong practice.”
This book is rich with practical methods we can apply throughout our daily life, and is written in simple language for Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. Methods for basic sitting meditation (shamata) are taught, as well as adaptations that can help us expand our practice to include nearly any situation.
Each one-and-a-half hour class will include brief presentations on the week’s chapters by hosts Lama Adam and Lama Mitchell, followed by moderated discussion, with short periods of meditation throughout.
The readings for each week are roughly 30 pages, and can usually be read in just a few hours. It is recommended that everyone complete each week’s reading before the class, but not required.
Beginners and all others are welcome for this program. No need to have any previous experience to join us, just a desire to supportively engage in discussion and practice with others.
